Jimmy Cruz

Jimmy Cruz can best be described as an Electric and Acoustic Guitar Stylist. He has been teaching guitar professionally for over 30 years and is one the premier guitarists in the Atlanta, GA area. He's been teaching at Whole Note Music for the last 8 years.

His areas of study have been done in Jazz, Blues, Rock and Classical guitar and Music Theory. He has studied under Jazz guitarists, Charles LaVerne, Tony Campo, Jimmy Nelis, Bob Shaw and Classical Guitarist Robert Bates and others. He has over 30 years experience in many bands of different styles, as well as studio session work. He continues to play with a small Jazz group and is active with the music ministry in his church as well as doing session work for local artist.

His teaching style is very practical and helps his students gain a firm understanding of music with the goal of helping them become proficient guitarists and having fun playing. Areas of study are chord work, learning songs, improvising in several styles (rock/blues/jazz/country), fingerpicking, music theory, tab or reading music, scales/arpeggios, technique building, developing tone and more).

Chris Odom

Chris Odom is a graduate of the classical guitar program at CSU under Dr. William Hearn and an accomplished student for over 7 years of local jazz great Jim Cruz, Chris Odom is a local area Atlanta musician. He has been featured in local venues from Spivey Hall to The Masquerade in both various solo and ensemble performances. He has played in local area bands such as the country rock band South County, as well as being a founding member of the hip-hop group 3rd Creek.

Chris spent 7 years and 5 years, respectively, playing in the CSU Big Band and CSU Jazz Combo both while in school and as a post-graduate member, as well as being founder and 1st chair in the CSU Classical Guitar Quarter and lead guitar player in BleWater, the CSU pep band. Recordings of his range from guitar, bass, mandolin, keyboards, percussion, and vocals with the various groups he has played in to a recent solo classical fund-raiser album featuring the works of Sor, Tarrega and Coste. Other studies have included music composition under Dr. Chris Arrell and Jazz improvisation under Stacey Houghton, and has participated in master classes with varying artists such as Sean Jones and David Russel. While currently focusing on writing and recording new solo material, he is also playing with local area acts and artists around Atlanta.
